(01)  Cornelius, North Carolina

Built for Cornelius ground.

Cornelius is where Lake Norman gets close and personal. A large share of the work we do here is on lots that drop from the house down to the shoreline, and that slope is the whole design problem: it is what makes the view, and it is what makes the yard unusable until something holds it.

We build across the town, from The Peninsula and the streets off Jetton Road to the newer pockets inland. On the water, projects are as much about access and grade as they are about material choice.

(02)  Local conditions

Building on a Cornelius lakefront lot

The slope is the project. Reclaiming a steep lakefront yard usually means terracing it — two or three walls stepping down instead of one tall one. Terraces are easier to build safely, they plant beautifully, and they turn a bank you could not stand on into a series of level rooms.

Access is genuinely tight. Older lake lots have narrow drives, mature trees and neighbours close on both sides. We plan machine access and material staging before we quote, because a job that has to be barrowed by hand a hundred feet is a different job.

The shoreline has rules. Lake Norman is a managed reservoir, and work close to the water's edge can fall under shoreline permitting. We flag that early rather than discovering it mid-build, and we will tell you plainly if a design needs to move back from the water.

The full outdoor room, one contractor.

Every project runs concept to construction under our own project managers, so there is one company holding the design, the build and the warranty.

(05)  Cornelius questions

Asked often.

Do I need a permit to build near the Lake Norman shoreline? +
Work close to the water can fall under shoreline management rules as well as town permitting. We raise it at the site visit, and we design back from the water where that is the simpler answer.
Can you get equipment into a tight lakefront lot? +
Usually yes, with planning. We walk access before quoting and size the machines to the gate, the drive and the trees. Where machine access genuinely is not possible we price the hand work honestly rather than discovering it later.
Is a terraced wall better than one tall wall? +
On most Cornelius slopes, yes. Two or three shorter tiers are easier to build safely, drain better, plant far more attractively, and give you usable level ground at each step.
